And so in a way what the Muslims were to BJP, the Maoists are to Congress," Roy said in an interview with Karan Thapar on CNN-IBN’s show Devil's Advocate.[link]

It is perfectly fine to pitch a political voice for justifying a violent, communist agenda but what is surprising is that people like Ms Roy, Medha Patkar and Teesta Setalvad are supported and funded by foreign donations made by Asha for Education and Association for India's Development. These orgaanizations disguise under non-profit status in US but are funding virulent communist activities.

The average unsuspecting donor takes these projects as a service to impoverished and needy. For instance, the Bhopal tragedy and Singur violence are really a political agenda against "imperialism", "capitalism". Similar is their agenda in supporting Medha Patkar. Their education services are tainted with non-belief teachings -- which is quite contrary to other education services which promote "equality" in all religions.

But if you support communism -- you are right in supporting these activist and their activities.

This is an old issue but still worth noting. The infamous charity organization - Asha for Education - has been funding Maoists, says CNN-IBN. AID, a similar politically motivated organization can also be involved as they both work very closely in U.S.

CNN-IBN's SIT met with a Western Union money transfer agent, Shahbuddin who admitted that a lot of NGOs were in collusion with Maoists."Almost all the NGOs are corrupt and have got links with Maoists. The funds are, indeed, being siphoned off to Naxals," he told the SIT. Donations run into crores, often made in cash. Audits are rare, so naturally the state government is concerned.

Samanvaya Ashram in Bihar is a specific NGO in question. I cannot find the article where CNN-IBN reported this, but Asha/AID have been funding this NGO for a while.

Communist parties and Islamic groups joined hands to condemn the execution. Both the ruling party and the Opposition called for a half-day strike in Kerala. Effigies of US President George W Bush was burnt across the state. Local TV channels and newspapers declared him a martyr.

Deshabhimani, a Malayalam daily and a CPI(M) organ, ran an editorial on Saddam titled Lal Salaam. Even CPI minister Binoy Vishwam wrote a column in another daily.

The Indian Union Muslim League, alarmed at the pace the communists are tapping its impregnable vote bank, rose up to market Saddam.

Saddam was the CPI(M)'s poster boy in the recent Assembly polls and last month's Assembly bypoll in Thiruvambadi.

OutlookIndia.com had an interesting sequence of "Week in pictures". It starts with the photo of Mohammad Afzal's 7 year old with a poster to release his father who happens be a master mind behind the terrorist attack on the New Delhi parliament. (I personally wish he should have killed a few politicians that day).

Our "external supporters" were also lined up along side the protesters. You might have guessed who I am talking about but here is the list anyway -

Human rights activists, separatist leaders from Kashmir and literary figures today came out in support of Mohammad Afzal... Demanding clemency for the former JKLF member, the outfit's chief Yaseen Malik, People's Conference leader Sajjad Lone, noted Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande, social activist Medha Patkar, Arundhati Roy and Sandeep Pandey came together and staged a protest against the death sentence given to him.

Ironically, in the same slide show, there are pictures of Srinagar troops fighting terrorist who have hijacked a Shiva temple.

Not only the troops are fighting radical jihadists but are also under fire from violent protesters asking for release of terrorists.

The communists have brought yet another ill-informed and ill-prioritized campaign to the public attention. This time it is to remove the law that bans all "un-natural" sexual activities.

It is ill-informed because just by reading the open letter, without any references, it will be impossible for any sensible person to co-sign it. The letter presents vague numbers like "millions of gays and lesbians" as facts of statistics. There are no factual cases discussed or even mentioned in the letter.

The letter is ill-prioritized because the first thing that should be banned is underage, forceful and inhumane polygamy that is rampant among the "minority" communities of India. A sensible person will be astonished of the crimes committed due to such medieval social practices. I have not heard a single signatory on this list who has had any problem with this social practice - and they are deemed "human rights activists".

As expected, the co-signatories are all five star activist, celebrities and human rights activists. But surprisingly there are a few "conservative" groups on the signatory list as well. John Dayal - head of All India Catholic Union will surely feel the pressure from Church after this public confession.

The manner in which Gujarat BJP intimidates free speech is certainly condemnable. It in fact reflects what Rang De Basanti made a case out of.

First of all, why does it matter what Aamir Khan says about Narmada bachao andolan? It is certainly not going to change anything as far as NBA is concerned. Second of all, how does stopping his movie stops what he says? In fact, it gets exemplified and makes the BJP and other politicians (Gujarat Congress has also reportedly joined the intimidation) look foolish, illeberal, immature and out of touch.

Every citizen has the right to say what they feel is true and fair. One can respectfully disagree and even protest and boycott peacefully. Not adhering to these norms leads straight to the holy grail!

Counter to what Indian communists might claim, they are notoriously involved in flagging, inciting and destablizing communal harmony. Recent electoral sweeps in Kerala by the ultra-communists (aka communalists) shows how the Muslim card is played for political gains:

The cold-blooded and ruthless mass murder of innocent civilian in Kashmir seems to have returned. Like in the past, not much is expected of Indian goverment to proactively counter the Mujaheedin's.

The victims were once again those described as the 'soft-targets': the minority Hindus in Jammu & Kashmir. At least 19 killed, including a nine-year old girl in Kulhan area of Doda, and 13 in Udhampur

There has been a sustained attempt by Indian communists to play down terrorism in Kashmir as mere communal violence. Thus belittling and equating it to other riots and violence.

Interestingly, but expected, AID, influenced by its communist mentors, has also joined the business of extra-developmental efforts. This time quite openly on many politically charged issue. The Narmada Bachao Andolan (Save Narmada) has lately been discredited as being a stubburn and a "anti" movement rather than something that aspires for a just rehabilitation.

NBA defines itself mainly through negative agendas – anti-dam, anti-liberalisation, anti-globalisation, anti-WTO, anti this, anti that. The alternative development paradigm Medha Patkar claims to represent has not yet offered any practical and positive worldview or agenda for action.

Incidently, Outlook India seems to have taken out the story by Madhu Purnima Kishwar. She pointed out so many facts including how NBA activist themselves threaten the locals not move out of dam area and how other covert, cunning tactics have kept the movement alive for so long, is just spectacular and elegantly zooms in to the "universal cosmos theories" of communists. She comes down heavily on Modi and Congress too.

It would have been a classic to observe communists reacting humanely on this - it would have been an open challenge!

INSAF (a close affiliate of Association for India's Development AID) has been openly publishing views about their ideological inclination with violent communist movements in India and Nepal.

More appalling is their activism which mitigates their extremist intentions and disguises them as progressives. Communist activism in India has created a virtually unbridgeable divide between public and media, blue and white collar workers, different religious beliefs and castes, developmental and social issue etc. along with communication gaps.

The Inquillabi's have formed yet another five member radical, anti-Imperialist (read anti-US) organization - DESIst. The following passage makes it clear, without doubt, that AID (Association for India's Development), CAC and others have their roots in Communist Party of India.

Although great work is being done by organizations that have long predated DESIst such as AID, ADP, ASATA, FOSA, CAC, SACA, PBN etc these each have their particular organizational and functional limitations that prevent them, for one reason or another, from being the vehicle or the impetus for the
building of a radical anti-imperialist South Asian anti-war movement. In some cases these organizations exist under charters that are more 'developmental' (AID) in focus or charitable in nature, resulting in politics centered around the zealous protection of some sort of non-profit or 501c(3) status. In other cases the particular organization has a more regional, religious, linguistic, or ethnic thrust which is bluntly and unabashedly exclusionary - again less than conducive to the discussions and analysis that would necessarily be needed to transcend these boundaries in building a broad participatory movement that can truly be labeled South Asian. This is in no way meant to disparage or belittle the real work being done to push the boundaries within these organizations by committed comrades who have decided to tackle the hard work of engaging these issues from the inside rather than criticizing from without. The point here is more that regardless of how much effort is expended in ensuring that an anti-imperialist philosophy consciously permeates these organizations, they ultimately have different
purposes and need to function in manners expedient to the reasons for their existence. What is imperative here though is that DESIst could not have come together without the years or decades of groundwork done by organizations and comrades in the Bay Area to create a context in which DESIst can exist. Lastly, it would be unfair and dishonest to leave readers with in impression that the Bay Area has never previously seen South Asian organizations come together for similar political purposes. South Asians for Collective Action in particular is a group that has seen many years and many rallies beneath a yellowing banner that still hails proudly at every antiwar march.

It's funny how the communists rant about "anti-Imperialism" of the west. The hypocracts, by definition however, tolerate the imperial and communist China for invading Tibet and commiting grave human rights violation. Their hypocracy runs amock in all their campaigns.

Invited by an NGO — the Women’s Initiative for Peace in South Asia (WIPSA) — to stage plays across the country, the Pakistani troupe was allegedly told to pack their bags because their production, Zikr-e-Nashunida (Discussing the Unheeded), expressed anti-US sentiments.

CPM to outsmart IUML in Malappuram
CPM's experiment in Nadapuaram, a predominantly Muslim area in Kozhikode, with communism through communalism is also worth mentioning here. An aberrant political strategy of the late CPM leader A Kanaran, instigating tenant thiyyas into a class war against errant Muslim landlords, turned out to be a full-scale communal campaign between the two OBC groups. The CPM has never criticised Kanaran, a man with explicit Islamophobia, nor did it disown his strategy. Still now, even in Malappuram, party has put up his cutouts.

The former has cunningly categorized correction's to Indian history as 'saffronization' whereas the latter is inspired by racial superiority over other races reminiscent of Hitler's "racial purity".

Mr. Michael Witzel, now a Wales Professor of Sanskrit at Harvard University is leading his activism against so-called "Hindutva" attempt to distort Indian history. His CV reveals that he is among the "neo-Nazi's" claiming German racial superiority.

When objected and argued on his work on Indology, Mr. Michael resorts to personal attacks as recorded by many of his co-researchers.

Asha for Education, is a US based non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) with substantial presense in American Universities. They are hence prohibited by law from taking active role in politics.

Recent developments have shown that the organization takes heavy political shots under the influence of communism. The Communist Party of Indian (CPI) has various factions with some legitimate political parties and others banned under international laws for terrorism.

Recently, a political article from Asha Parivar showed up in SACW (8.2) (South Asian Citizens Web) - a foriegn based communist watch dog. This is the justification given for Pakistan sponsored terrorism in Kashmir:

some extremist organizations use violence to promote their political ideology. Among these are those organizations, members of which were so subjugated socially, economically and politically that they had no option but to pick up arms. Even though in reaction other organizations emerged which too resorted to violent ways, the problems of groups belonging to this category could be politically resolved through dialogue. These organizations (viz. Lashkar-e-Toiba) do not victimize common people but only target the suppressor (viz. The Indian Army).

Whereas, the BJP is viewed from a selective glass:

On the other hand there are organizations which use hatred and violence against other communities to establish their supremacy. They have abused people's communal sentiments to instigate them to indulge in violence.

Whether Asha Parivar is right or wrong is not the question. A more worrisome concern is their political campaigning and "a strong us vs. them" ideology. Consequently, Asha Parivar has a five year plan:

Indian communists are truely a unique breed of humans, disjoint to all things logical. The communist ideology can actually be compared with fundamentalism. Rightly so, the BBC notes:

The more things change, the more India's Communists remain the same.

They seek to "independently apply Marxism-Leninism to Indian conditions," and insist "world capitalism is incapable of solving the basic problems affecting humanity". That is not all.

The 40-year-old programme of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) - or CPM - updated just once four years ago, tellingly, says: "Global mobile finance capital is assaulting the sovereignty of nations, seeking unimpeded access to their economies in pursuit of super profits."

Opposing everything "traditionally Indian" is a stone carved dictum in communist literature. Capitalism (hence US/UK) is another enemy the ideology lives for! But ironically or hypocratically(?), all the support to oppose these have been garnered from Indians in US by raising funds.

One such communist is Sandeep Pandey - will be lecturing in Santa Clara, Calif.

Sandeep Pandey, who is scheduled to be felicitated at the event, has repeatedly called America "the biggest evil power on earth"[1] and "the biggest terrorist state."[2] Sandeep Pandey is a sympathizer of the violent Naxalite group, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation (CPI-ML), which calls for an armed revolution and for raising an army.[3] He has been a delegate at the convention of this group honoring the "comrade martyrs", a euphemism for terrorists killed by police when they attempted violent actions on civilians.[4]

Wait a minute, if this Naxalite proponent feels so heartedly against the US why is he even visiting US? We do, however, know that Mr. Pandey is a mastermind in raising funds and diverting parts of it unknown (and mostly anti-India) projects.

With an upbringing in a 'liberal household' Ms Karat's umpteen morcha's for the poor and underprivileged workers sounds slightly off-key. She makes a pretty picture, but Marxism is best left to the babus with the jholas.

2) Jyoti Basu

The grand old man of Marxism or does that slot belong to Harkishen Singh Surjeet. Jyoti babu comes close, though and the 'gala milao' with the UPA government reinforces what Mamata didi has been alleging all along-the CPI(M) is the B-team of the Congress. Of course the allegations fall flat when they steam from the maverick Mamata, but Jyoti babu with his love for Scotch and his luxurious lifestyle is hardly the archetypal Marxist except when he is making an extravagant show...um...making a speech!

ToI should also consider compiling a list of India's liers and double standard activists. Marxists would again top the list!

Over 300 Maoist guerrillas, including dozens of women in olive green military uniform, Thursday afternoon attacked the Madhuban bazaar, opened fire to create panic and set fire to the police station and block office, killing two policemen and a bank guard.

They also looted cash from a bank and attacked a petrol pump owned by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP from Sheohar, Sitaram Singh.

The rebels exploded bombs, looted four rifles and ransacked the local branch of State Bank of India, Central Bank and local treasury as a part of their daredevil operation.

The guerrillas also bombed the house of Sitaram Singh and his neighbour and looted cash and jewellery.

"The Maoists did the looting for over 90 minutes without any police action," a district official said.

One source close to the RJD leader said Nepalese Maoists were also involved in the attack.

Rakesh Sharma's 3 hour documentary "The Final Solution" (named after Nazi plans to exterminate Jews) is a study of politics of hate.

After watching the documentary, one can easily make out that it is a crude attempt to exemplify and exaggerate the reality to gain political mileage. There are a number of instances where the director attempts (but fails) to intentionally misinterpret Hindi/Gujarati speaking subjects. Out of context statements make up his case in a notorious manner.

Then there are completely unverified, false and politically charged statements used by communists against the BJP that make up large part of the documentary. For instance, the documentary claims that:

Narendra Modi introduced 7/8th grade history textbook that glorifies Hitler.

It, however, turns out that the books was actually prescribed under a Congress government in 1993 and can hardly, in any case, be pinned upon the incumbent chief minister [Source: Indian Express].

Fake human rights reports have been produced to pump up the number of dead, homeless, raped during gujarat riot in an attempt to liken it to genocide. Unlike the documentary, official figures of the number of dead is strikingly different: 254 Hindus, 790 Muslims where most of the 254 Hindus were killed in police firing. The documentary, with devious intentions, claims 2000 Muslims were slaughtered by Hindus. The BJP deputy leader in Lok Sabha, defending the Gujarat governments role, claimed that not a single person was killed in police firings in riots which occurred during earlier Congress regimes including the Bhagalpur violence and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Moreover, the documentary does not analyze social issues such as unemployment and crime gangs that openly take sides in communal riots, making the violence that much more bloody and vicious. [BBC].

Only a section of people are interviewed, restricting a broad view of the happening. It fails to address why exactly the Modi government was put back into power with 2/3 majority. Conversely, it claims that it was because the whole Gujarati Hindu community is fascist and communal!

At times it resorts to Indian judical hearings made against Modi to justify and give credibility to the documentary. At other times, however, Indian judicial system is vilified, demonized and its authority is questioned.

While this is all true, it is not suprising if one checks the director's background. Rakesh Sharma has close ties with communism inspired/soft cornered activists like Anand Patwardhan, Sandeep Panday, Medha Patkar, Teeta Setalvad and others. All these people are funded by AID and Singh Foundation (see guidestar.org) for these and other notorious projects.

What is true but not made obvious is their association with Communists party of India. The Marxist ideology is warm and hearty to all of them but ironically they are ashmed to admit it in public.

Wen Jiabao Meets with Lal Krishna Advani - Chinese Govt.

Indian Communists need to learn from the Chinese counterpart and break their traditional outlook towards rapidly changing realities in India. The Chinese, even though communist, are more 'nationalist' than the CPI (who conversely on most occasion take anti-national stand).

Wen told Advani that China appreciates the Bharatiya Janata Party for its contribution to promoting China-India friendliness as the ruling party. The Communist Party of China (CPC) is willing to continue to develop the friendly cooperation with BJP and hopes that BJP could continue to play an active role in promoting the growth of bilateral ties.

145,000 ancient books destroyed in Manipur arson attack

A separatist rebel group, Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Manipur, India were among the destroyers... again of Indian heritage.

Officials say many of Manipur's most ancient texts were among the books destroyed by the fire.

Historian Gangumei Kamei said the loss of so many books was "an incalculable loss" to Manipur's heritage.
But the state government insists that it will only introduce Mayek gradually, because its sudden introduction could cause problems for a generation of Manipuris who are not familiar with the ancient script.

The following photo has been taken at the 18th congress of Community party of India (ML) (April 2005). Hardcore communists still praise and admire (1)Lenin and (2)Stalin - as seen in the photo. BBC describes Stalin as "One of the most powerful and murderous dictators in human history".

It should be noted that Stalin was also in charge of the war machine that played a significant role in the defeat of Hitler's armies during World War II. The communists still lament their enemies as fascists!

As noted before on this blog, communist attrocities have not been very well documented. Moreover, as Balbir Punj notes,

Far worse has been the role of our "intellectuals". They turned Hitler's concentration camps into a cliché, but maintained complete silence on Stalin's Gulag where twice the number of people perished. They played havoc with countries of East Europe because of which many of them are still experiencing political and economic difficulties.

A modern intellectual Jean-Francois Revel, author of famous books like, Without Marx or Jesus and How Democracies Perish has rightly said: "Authoritarian socialism has failed almost everywhere, but you will not find a single Marxist who will say it has failed because it was wrong or impractical. He will say it has failed because nobody went far enough with it. So failure never proves that a myth is wrong."

It is despecable to see how 'traditional' these 'revolutionaries' are. Hence the dwindling numbers?

Indian PM warns growth to fall below target

If the growth really does slow down (most likely), it will be the first ever decline since 1998. The reasons are pointed out in Financial Times.

Mr Singh’s coalition wants to attract more foreign investment to help meet this demand. Yet it has had difficulty persuading its communist party allies, who support the government from the outside, of the need to boost private investment in areas such as telecommunications, insurance, and retailing. “We have the potential to grow at 7-8 per cent but we need strong political decisions to divert spending away from wasteful subsidies to more warranted investments,” said B.B Bhattacharya, professor at Delhi’s Institute of Economic Growth.

This is, apparently, not enough for communists in India. It wants an even harder stand - even with the knowledge of slowdown in economy, the hardline CPI attacked CPI(M) for its "tolerance" of UPA's econmic policies.

The following "Writing in Red" were put forth by the Communist Party of India. Communists claim to fight fundamentalists forces but ironically they religiously stick to the red book to do it!

Third Alternative
The ‘Third Alternative’ was much in mention at the CPI(M) congress. The phrase featured in party general secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet’s speech. For the record, the Third Alternative has nothing to do with the Third Front. The CPI(M) has vowed to go it alone, make the party stronger, avoid opportunistic alliances and build the party from grassroots. And then, it will provide the Third Alternative alone.

Comrades world over
Foreign delegates from 27 countries, all representatives of Communist parties, are attending the congress. The loudest applause, however, was reserved for members from Cuba, Vietnam and the Palestine Liberation Organisation. There are two comrades from North Korea as well.

Bengal’s right for Left
It was more than coincidence that most Kerala Politburo members were sitting to the left on the dais. Surjeet and Basu sat to the right where most other young Bengal comrades were seated. The interpretation doing the rounds — power in the CPI(M) is heavily tilted towards Bengal. Of course, Sitaram Yechury sat on the first row while Prakash Karat occupied a discreet seat on the second row.

No mourning Pope
The CPI congress in Chandigarh had stepped into a row by condoling the death of the Pope, praised in the West for doing great damage to Communism. The CPI(M) was more prudent — there was no mention of the Pope.

Red TV on Marxist menu
The CPI(M)-promoted Malayalam channel Kairali Television had a crew ready for live coverage of the Marxist menu. Channel representatives, however, maintained the reportage had been kept minimal and there would be no special shows.

A Series of Unfortunate Events - COMMUNISM

Communist regimes are probably the most unfortunate among all to have been thrusted on humanity. What is more outragious is its crimes have not been well documented.

Unlike Chinese and Russian communists which have a capitalistic flavor to it, Indian communists are more traditional and hardcore (inspiration to armed revolution).

The Indian Express lays out a brief history of communism in India. Full history, i.e. Thirty Years of Naxalbari, should be an interesting read.

Going back in history, into the 1940s, when the country was fighting for its Independence, the Communists actually excused themselves from participating in it. Why? Because the Soviet Union, leaders of Communist movement worldwide, was fighting Nazi Germany in the Second World War as an ally of the British.

Truth be said, whether it is Basu and Surjeet, Stalin or Mao, Karl Marx would have described them as despots, nothing else. Whether it was India, West Bengal, Soviet Union or China, people who were unfortunate enough to fall under their influence passed a gauntlet of pain.

[1]. In their press statement, the HAF 'discussed the scourge of terror faced by the United States, India and Israel and conveyed the security issues facing Hindus globally to AIPAC leaders. HAF emphasized the many values shared by Hindu Americans and Jewish Americans: a determined work ethic, family values, a non proselytizing tolerant religion, and a respect for life and religious freedom.'

Being for something does not mean you are against something else.

Despite their hatred for Hindus, branding their opponents "Hindu fundamentalists", Communists and others who pander to the demands of Muslims gain respect by associating themselves with Hindus.

In the recent past, with the Nehru family out of power, the relationship between India and Israel has bloomed. In 1992, India established a full diplomatic relationship with Israel, and since then, the two countries have signed several defense deals. Many Israelis who have visited India as tourists during this period have had pleasant experiences. While there seems to be no immediate danger of things taking a turn for the worse, it is a cause for concern that a member of the Nehru family is once again the de facto head of the government in India. Hopefully, the shortsighted foreign policy of ostracizing Israel will not become reality again, leading to the souring of relations between India and Israel.

One should note that pro-palestenian activism has a strong hold in Indian communist circles.

The freedom dawned on August 15, 1947. Since then we have been witnessing that though the English are gone, English prevails and English traditions still rule. It got a strange fellow, the Marxists, as the aim of both was the same, to keep the country off its ancient values. We had even before seen on record such a friendship in the form of a pact between the opposing sides of a German Max Mueller and The English Maculae for the agreed cause of uprooting ancient Vedic values.

Today we have an English media impressed and influenced by the west. Then there is the Marxist media of foreign origin totally cut off from Indian values and roots.
