Kochi: Madhany party calls off stir plan - The Peninsula
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called off its plan for a state-wide shutdown stir in Kerala tomorrow following party chairman Abdul Nasser Madhany ending his fast at Coimbatore jail Tamil Nadu yesterday evening...The PDP chairman has been charged with a plot to kill former BJP all-India president L K Advani during his visit to Coimbatore and serial blasts in 1998.

No one knows the exact strength of the group - but official assessments vary from a 600-strong cadre in Andhra Pradesh to about 3,500 across India...The organisation now largely relies on extortion to fund its activities, reportedly collecting between five and $10m a year.
